Brittany Aguirre named Star Biology Student
The HFC Biology Department recently named HFC alumna Brittany Aguirre as the Star Biology Student of the Year, awarding her a certificate of achievement and a stipend. HFC biology instructor Dr. Daniel Kisabeth nominated Aguirre.
“I was actually shocked when my teacher told me that he nominated me, and that I had won! I’ve never won an award before! I’m very grateful,” said Aguirre.
For Kisabeth, it was a pleasure having Aguirre in his class.
“Brittany's passion for anatomy and physiology goes far beyond the classroom, combining sharp intellect with a genuine ability to elevate those around her,” said Kisabeth.
Switching from paramedic to nursing
The eldest of two, Aguirre was born in Dearborn and lives with her son in Wyandotte. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she earned her associate degree in paramedic at HFC. She is now working toward her associate degree in nursing at the College.
“I’ve known I wanted to be in the medical field ever since I was a child,” she said. “I worked as a paramedic for two years for Huron Valley Ambulance before deciding to return to school and pursue nursing. I want to continue my education to build a better life for my son and myself.”
Her goal is to become a pediatric nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
“The best part of attending HFC is that they offer both of my programs and the schedule so far has worked out well,” said Aguirre. “HFC has helped me academically and professionally; the paramedic program was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. When I graduated, I felt so comfortable going right into working as a paramedic.”
