Join us for Mindfulness Mondays
Mark your calendars as HFC’s Counseling Center works with you to improve your mental health and well-being with Mindfulness Mondays.
Each Mindfulness Mondays session will meet in Room A-121 on the first floor of the Learning Success Center (Building A on the main campus). HFC Counselor Amy Ducklow will lead the Mindfulness Mondays sessions from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.:
- Monday, October 6: “Circles of Control” is the first session in the Mindfulness Mondays series. The focus of the first workshop is about the circles of control in your life: the circle of concern, the circle of influence, and the circle of control. Students will identify and understand their circles and learn how to cope effectively with life’s challenges.
- Monday, October 27: The second session is the guided imagery and breathing workshop. This workshop focuses on mindfulness and conscious awareness of one’s body and its surroundings. Breathwork is practiced and students are encouraged to discover their own natural rhythm and their capacity to relax. A grounding activity will be explained as an example of a healthy coping strategy.
- Monday, November 24: The third session is the affirmations workshop. The importance of affirmations lies in the ability to foster a positive mindset and enhance self-belief. This session will help students to cultivate personal affirmations. Students will learn how this can contribute to a positive mindset and promote resilience and mental strength. With practice, the result can lead to significant improvements in mental well-being and self-esteem.
- Monday, December 8: The final session of the semester focuses on practicing deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and sensory grounding exercises. These exercises activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes a state of relaxation and leads to healthy emotional regulation.
“At the Mindfulness Mondays sessions, you’ll discover the benefits of stress reduction, stress management, improved concentration, better emotional regulation, improved relationships, better thinking, and better sleep. All of this leads to living a better life!” said Ducklow.
