Join us for the Student Success Summit
The HFC Detroit Promise and Hawk Advantage programs will co-host the 3rd annual Student Success Summit on Friday, October 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Building L on the main campus).
Author, motivational speaker, and self-described execution coach Keyon Clinton, of Southfield, will give the keynote address at the Student Success Summit.
"College is not something you can put on top of everything else in your life. Our scholars will teach strategies and techniques that will help you find balance and aid you on your educational journey,” said Detroit Promise Program Coordinator Mark Yancy, Jr.

Other highlights of the Summit
The Student Success Summit will have several workshops to support your success.
Man Up: Clinton will speak about empowering you to navigate the past, present, and future. This workshop is designed to equip young adults with the essential skills they need to navigate the path to adulthood and become successful, responsible adults. Focused on personal development, Clinton will cover critical areas such as emotional intelligence, financial literacy, communication skills, time management, and leadership. Through interactive discussions and group activities, you will learn how to set meaningful goals, manage stress, build healthy relationships, and take ownership of your future.
Mind Over Matter: Yoga, Mindfulness, and Self-Care: Imani Foster of 482 Forward will discuss personal relationships with self-care in order to gain insight on how we can take better care of ourselves. There will be a community journaling session, meditation, and light yoga. “My hope is that you leave this session feeling lighter and full of new coping mechanisms for the stresses of life, college, and the world,” said Foster.
Motivation: Leveraging Mindfulness: Educational consultant Chioke Bracy will teach you how to manage the stress of the present and the future, while gaining the strength and motivation to push forward. “There will always be roadblocks, detours, and accidents on our road to success,” said Bracy. “Many times, these road hazards cause us to lose motivation to continue the rest of the journey.”
Lock In: Your Campus Network is Your Net Worth: Stacy Boone will run an escape room. You will choose your character and choose their adventure navigating college relationships. Your team needs your sharp skills and savvy to guide your character through college life and unexpected events to make connections before the graduation clock runs out.
Girl Talk: Navigating College + Defining Your Legacy: Social workers Christen Marbury and Jewel Wilson-Taylor will coordinate this workshop for women. It will cover best practices for navigating college, as well as a deeper dive into how you can define and create your legacy.
This is Money: How Your Relationship with Money Works: Detroit Promise Campus Success Coaches Reco Spencer and Jeffrey Liggens will guide you through the essentials of financial responsibility. This workshop focuses on understanding and managing finances during college, which is a critical skill for long-term success. You will learn how to create a budget, set savings goals, and make informed decisions about spending and financial commitments. Through interactive activities, such as group discussions and hands-on budgeting exercises, you will gain practical tools to navigate college finances confidently. By the end of the workshop, you will be equipped to take control of your money, avoid common financial pitfalls, and set yourself up for financial wellbeing.
Focusing on What You Can Control: Building Resilience and Reducing Stress: Detroit Promise Campus Success Coaches Charisma Flowers and Delphine Davis will coordinate this workshop. In a fast-paced, unpredictable world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by things outside your control: grades, deadlines, relationships, and even current world affairs. But what if you could shift your mindset to focus on the things that are within your power? Join us for a practical and engaging workshop designed to help you build resilience, reduce stress, and take control of your life.
