HFC Athletics will sponsor the Michigan Community College Athletic Association “Hunger Games,” the annual non-perishable food collection competition among participating colleges.

The food-collection competition will take place Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the gymnasium of the Athletic Memorial Building (Bldg. H) on the main campus. Your donation is your ticket to the games (only one donation will allow you to attend both games).

  • Women's tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
  • Men's tip-off is 7:30 p.m.

Canned and monetary donations benefit the Hawks’ Nest

Please bring 5 cans of food or equivalent. Food donations must be dropped off on Feb. 28 in order to count toward HFC’s Hunger Games total. All funds and canned goods will support The Hawks’ Nest, HFC’s student food pantry.

View our recent Hawks Nest article for food items that are most needed.

If you can’t attend the games, donations can be dropped off in the lobby of the Athletic Memorial Building. If you need your canned donations picked up or if you wish to make a monetary donation, contact HFC Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor to make arrangements.

Fostering a competitive spirit since 2014

The MCCAA Hunger Games have been fostering a competitive spirit focused on giving back to our local communities since 2014. All 23 member institutions select a men’s and women’s conference basketball home game during which they encourage fans to bring canned food and nonperishables to the game for entry.

The donations are tallied and delivered to community food pantries. At the end of the conference season, the MCCAA crowns the winner of the contest with the Hunger Games Plaque. In 2022, the MCCAA Hunger Games collected 4,400 pounds of donations for food pantries in our service areas.

“The MCCAA Hunger Games are the perfect events to showcase what we do best in the world of athletics: Engage with the community, foster an environment that helps guide civic-minded young adults and, of course, compete,” said MCCAA Executive Administrator Al Perry.
