Join us: OER (open educational resources) Grants Open House Sept. 15
HFC faculty members have saved students more than $1.3 million in textbook costs in the last two years, thanks to Open Educational Resources (OER) Grants.
OER materials are teaching, learning, and research materials intentionally created and licensed to be free for the end-user to own, share, and, in most cases, modify for their classes. HFC faculty members will discuss their OER materials at the OER Grants Open House in the Rosenau Rooms on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Bldg. L) on the main campus, Thursday, Sept. 15, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Come to this event to see how they did it, and perhaps get inspired for your own classes!
Free and intended for anyone to use
The College administration allocated grant funds for the Student Success Committee to pay faculty members who wanted to participate in creating OER materials. Both adjuncts and full-time instructors have completed OER projects. Requirements were one of the following:
- Adopt OER materials that already existed for their class(es)
- Adapt OER materials they found for their class(es)
- Create their own OER materials for their class(es)
Some faculty members submitted their OER projects via video due to COVID-19. Others will present their OER projects at this open house.
The beauty of OERs is that they are open, so they are intended to be free and available for anyone to use. So if your colleagues have come up with a great plan for class materials that are free to students, you might want to use them yourself!
This event is free and open to the HFC community. For questions or more information, contact Tessa Betts at tbetts2@hfcc.edu.
