HFC’s Harvell joins Community Conversation on supporting Black male students
HFC sociology instructor Dr. Kalvin DaRonne Harvell will speak at the Michigan State University Community Conversation, “How to Support Michigan’s Black Male Students in 2023,” on Saturday, Nov. 19, from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the MSU Detroit Center at 3408 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.
This event was created to supply educators and the local community with the latest cutting edge researched-based information to support Michigan’s Black males as college-ready and career-ready in 2023. This is an opportunity for Black male educators to discuss strategies to help Black male students thrive in the coming year.
They will also discuss the release of two new books related to this topic:
- Young, Gifted and Missing: The Underrepresentation of African American Males in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Disciplines (4th ed) by Anthony G. Robins
- Mindful Teaching Practices for Black Male Achievement: A Student-Focused Guide for Educators by Dr. Theodore S. Ransaw
“I am looking forward to this event. I appreciate the work of Dr. Ransaw for organizing and leading this timely convening,” said Harvell.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Please register today
