HFC joins President Biden's Vaccine Challenge
By Independence Day, July 4, President Joe Biden would like to see 70% of the U.S. population receive the COVID-19 vaccination through the COVID-19 College Challenge. To reach such a lofty goal, the Biden Administration has called upon more than 250 colleges and universities across the nation – including HFC – in an effort to get students vaccinated and reach this target number.
On Tuesday, June 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.**, HFC hosted a vaccine clinic in the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Building L), where dozens of people received the Pfizer vaccine. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona was present at the HFC vaccine clinic.
Vaccine Champion College
Community colleges such as HFC are specifically being targeted in this campaign since few have required vaccines and have populations of students that come and go from campus frequently. The Biden Administration stated retail pharmacies and large community colleges will be working on combining resources to offer community vaccine clinics for faculty, staff, and students.
"The COVID-19 College Challenge is a terrific way for all postsecondary institutions to engage students, faculty, and staff in an effort to keep their communities safe," said Cardona. "I encourage every college and university to take this pledge and get creative in becoming Vaccine Champion Colleges. We must all work together to beat this pandemic and put the focus back on students' educational careers that will put them on the path to success."
