Recently, Barbara Eisterhold was promoted to Director of Financial Accounting at HFC.

Eisterhold, the current president of the Michigan Community College Business Officers Association (MCCBOA), an organization she has been involved with since 2004 – takes on many of the responsibilities formerly held by David Cunningham. In this position, Eisterhold reports to John Satkowski, HFC Vice President of Financial, Facilities, IT, and Auxiliary Services.

“I am so excited to be in this role and to be given this opportunity,” said Eisterhold, of Southgate, who has worked for HFC since 2004. “Anyone who knows me knows of my commitment and dedication to the College. I assure everyone that I will continue to do my very best. I am up for the challenges this role will bring.”

In addition to the duties assigned to her because of this promotion, she continues to be responsible for oversight of the following non-student general accounting areas:

  • Accounts Payable (including P-cards and E-payables)
  • Fixed Assets
  • Auditing
  • Grant Accounting
  • Foundation Accounting
  • Banking

“A tremendous growth and learning opportunity”

An alumna of the former Immaculata High School in Detroit, Eisterhold went on to Aquinas College. There, she earned a bachelor’s degree in in accounting and business.

“My dad and my husband were accountants. I followed in their footsteps, and it became my passion,” she said.

Eisterhold has been in the accounting field for approximately 40 years. In 2003, she was an accounting consultant for HFC before she officially became an HFC employee in 2004.

“I love working at the College,” said Eisterhold. “The people here are fantastic. I work with some amazing people in Financial Services. We work well together. We have a dynamic setting that provides for tremendous growth and learning opportunities. The College has provided me an environment to grow as a professional. I couldn’t have envisioned this happening 17 years ago when I started as a consultant, and I consider myself very fortunate to be where I am today. I thought I would retire before Dave did, but here I am. This is an incredible opportunity.”

Positions held at HFC

During her time at HFC, Eisterhold has hold the following positions before her recent promotion:

  • Accounting Manager (2004-14)
  • Accounting Supervisor (2014-16)
  • Accounting Coordinator (2016-21)

“I worked with Dave for 16 years,” said Eisterhold. “Ever since he retired, the department hasn’t skipped a beat. We worked together for so long, I was aware of many things he was doing. It’s been a seamless transition. The FY20 audit was done on time and even done remotely because of the pandemic with no issues.”

Satkowski is pleased to have Eisterhold in this upgraded role.

“When Dave Cunningham retired, Barb's experience with the operations of the financial area made it easy for me to allocate several duties in that area to Barb,” he said. “Barb understands College financial procedures, she makes sure procedures are followed – she even has to ‘remind’ me periodically of the processes – has worked with the auditors every year to complete the audit, has a great sense of humor, and is able to seamlessly expand her role in the Finance Department due to working as the Assistant Director. She is a pleasure to work with.”
