The Writing Center opens online March 23

Event Date:
Mon, 03/23/2020
Location:
online

The HFC Writing Center will continue to offer writing support in an online format, effective Monday, March 23. The website has been updated with a link to its online system. There is also a button at the top of the login page that directs students to its online schedule.

Other pertinent information:
• We are using WCOnline to provide both "Online" synchronous sessions (real-time, audio/video optional) and "eTutoring" asynchronous sessions (students submit their work and receive comments from a Respondent within 24 hours). All appointments will be facilitated by HFC Writing Center Respondents (adjunct faculty in ENG, ELI, and HUM) who are working remotely.
• There are video tutorials that demonstrate how to register for an account, make an appointment, and participate in a synchronous session available on our WCOnline log-in page.
• The Writing Center at HFC remains open to ALL students at ANY stage of the writing process. To receive assistance, students simply need to provide assignment information and their work-in-progress. Please note that the Writing Center is NOT a proofreading service.
• For students who have difficulty accessing WCOnline or who would prefer to communicate via email, contact Chelsea Lonsdale, the Writing Center director, at calonsdale@hfcc.edu.

Writing Center staff members are also putting together a series of writing workshops and handouts that faculty can share with students and/or include directly in their classes. Those should be available in the next several weeks through a link on the HFC website.

Lastly, please know that the WCOnline system is new to everyone, so please be patient during this time of transition. Thank you for your ongoing support. If you have any further questions, contact Lonsdale at calonsdale@hfcc.edu.
