Volunteers needed: assist high school students at BPA event on campus Jan. 10

BPA students holding an award

Please consider sharing your time and expertise with high school students at HFC on Friday, January 10, 2020.

On January 10, HFC will host the Region VI Business Professionals of America (BPA) Leadership Conference/Competition. More than 600 students from at least 20 high schools will compete in events that focus on business skill acumen. The students will be well prepared. This is a professional event for them, and as a bonus, it provides a great opportunity for potential students to familiarize themselves with HFC and our Future Driven mindset.

We need you, HFC faculty and staff, to volunteer. Volunteer options include.

• Checking in students
• Providing general assistance (directions to classroom locations, etc.)
• Judging events
• Proctoring exams

Most of the judged events are presentations, so many HFC faculty and staff are qualified to judge. Rubrics used for judged events will be available prior to the event. You may volunteer as little as one hour or as much as the entire day. We can certainly use your help! Full-time faculty should note that your volunteer time can count as your community service hours.

The competitions include topics such as the following:

• Information Technology
• Financial Services
• Administrative Support
• Interviewing Skills
• Persuasive Presentations and Speeches
• Human Resources (HR)
• Marketing
• Management

Please contact Kathy Edwards, Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean, School of BEPD at 313-317-1764 or kmedwards1@hfcc.edu to volunteer.

This is an exciting event for students, and can even help influence their decision about where to go to college. Many of you have volunteered in the past, and we appreciate your support. We hope that many more of you will volunteer for the 2020 competition.

Thank you in advance for your service!

School of Business, Entrepreneurship & Professional Development (BEPD)
