HLC logo with criterion 4

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, Henry Ford College is undergoing the Higher Learning Commission accreditation process this year.

Our HFC accreditation team, under the direction of Dr. Lori Gonko, is completing the Assurance Argument. They are requesting your feedback on the five Criteria sections of the Argument.

The five criteria are:

  1. Mission The institution’s mission is clear and articulated publicly; it guides the institution’s operations.

  2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and reasonable.

  3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support The institution provides high quality education, wherever and however its offerings are delivered;

  4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement The institution demonstrates responsibility for the quality of its educational programs, learning environments, and support services, and it evaluates their effectiveness for student learning through processes designed to promote continuous improvement; and

  5. Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness The institution’s resources, structures and processes are efficient to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and respond to future challenges and opportunities. The institution plans for the future.

The 12-page draft of Criterion 4: Teaching and Learning is attached to this message. We invite your feedback. Please note that there are many links within this document. All links go to the G drive, to which all employees should have access while you are on campus. If you need assistance, please contact one of the accreditation team members or the Help Desk.

How to provide feedback on the HFC Assurance Argument, Criterion 4:

  1. Consider the following questions in providing feedback:

a. Does the argument accurately describe HFC initiatives, programs, and processes as related to the Criterion? (Is the argument factually correct?)

b. Are there initiatives, programs, or processes that we did not discuss in this Criterion that we should? (Did we miss anything?)

c. Does the evidence provided support the argument? (Is the supporting documentation accurate and sufficient?)

  1. Email your feedback about the above questions to Betsy Cohn (bcohn@hfcc.edu) and Rebecca Michalski (rmmichalski@hfcc.edu).

  2. In your message, please refer to the specific page(s) and paragraph(s) to which your comment is relevant.

  3. If you prefer, you may include comments or markup in a copy of the attached document. Please use Track Changes if you do it this way.

Please submit all feedback on this document to Betsy and Rebecca no later than the end of the day Wednesday, Oct. 2.

The team will request feedback on each of the remaining criteria in the coming weeks. For more information, the HFC accreditation website is here.

Any questions should be referred to Betsy, Rebecca, or Lori.

Thank you for your ongoing participation in our accreditation process.
