A memorandum of agreement that modifies the professional development article of the HFC Adjunct Faculty Organization’s contract went into effect Sept. 17. It was signed by AFO President Lynn Boza and HFC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michael Nealon.

Under the new MOA:

  1. All adjunct faculty members will be paid $50 to attend departmental, school, or faculty organization meetings (up to a maximum of $500 per semester).

  2. All adjunct faculty will be paid for serving on College committees, regardless of of whether they are standing committees of the faculty organization, departmental, school, or ad hoc committees.

Previously, only senior adjuncts were paid $50 for attending school or faculty organization meetings. They were also compensated for serving on standing committees or ad hoc committees of the faculty organization. However, they were not paid for attending departmental or school committee meetings.

Working with human resources, the AFO also agreed to revise the existing reimbursement request form. Download the new form.

“Compared to adjuncts at other community colleges, HFC AFO members get generous compensation for professional development and governance activities,” said Boza. “Continuously improving – even between contracts – our professional development article has long been part of our win-win bargaining strategy. In this particular case, we saw the need to make some improvements. The Academic Affairs Leadership Council and HR agreed. Together, we are working together to help build a better College.”
