The Henry Ford College (HFC) Music Department will host its annual Spring Choral Concert Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 22124 Garrison (at Mason) in Dearborn.

More than 80 vocalists in five choral groups, under the direction of G. Kevin Dewey, will present a wide variety of musical pieces, ranging from early Madrigal to Mozart, from traditional spiritual to Paul Simon, and from Antônio Carlos Jobim to Lee Greenwood.

The five choral groups are:

  1. HFC Chorus features the talents of HFC students, faculty, and staff, as well as local residents, performing a wide variety of music, including classical, pop, and jazz.
  2. Renaissance Voices is a select women's vocal ensemble that performs the most exquisite and challenging pieces, focusing on a cappella music.
  3. Blue Fusion is a vocal jazz group for a variety of ages and tastes, performing a cappella with its own rhythm section and with HFC's Studio 110 band.
  4. Midnight Blue is a vocal ensemble that performs a cappella with its own rhythm section and with the Henry Ford Big Band. It performs the most challenging vocal jazz arrangements.
  5. The Combined Chorus will feature all four groups combined to perform several pieces together.

At the end of the performance, Dewey will present the 2019 Chorister of the Year Award to a deserving student.

“I look forward to this performance every year. For me, it’s a proud moment to see how much my students have improved since the beginning of the academic year. As a teacher, you never get tired of that feeling,” said Dewey, a full-time HFC music professor and director of choirs.

Tickets to the concert are $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students with a valid ID. For questions or more information, contact Dewey at (313) 845-6474 or kdewey@hfcc.edu.
