Helping you prepare for the HLC accreditation visit

Event Date:
Tue, 11/19/2019 - 10:55am
Accreditation forums announcement

Faculty and staff: let us help you prepare for HLC’s campus visit Nov. 18-19.

As you know from our ongoing messages, a peer review team from the Higher Learning Commission will make an official visit to HFC on Monday, Nov. 18, and Tuesday, Nov. 19. Their visit is to affirm HFC’s accreditation status and ensure that HFC meets acceptable levels of quality.

Accreditation makes HFC eligible to offer federal financial aid, and enables students to transfer credits to other institutions.

Everyone on campus – faculty, staff, and students – is encouraged to get involved when HLC visits campus.

There will be two forums to prepare you for the visit and let you know what to expect. Please attend the forum that works best for your schedule.

  1. Friday, Nov. 8, from 10:00 -- 11:30 a.m. in Rm. K-14 in the Reuther Liberal Arts Building (Bldg. K)
  2. Thursday, November 14, 3:00 pm -- 4:30 p.m. in the Rosenau Rooms in the ASCC (Bldg. L)

Background and documents for review

HFC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a regional higher education accreditation agency. While HLC is not directly affiliated with the federal government, it is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as qualified to accredit degree-granting colleges and universities in the North Central region of the United States.

Documents and information to prepare HFC faculty and staff for the HLC visit in November are on the accreditation page of the employee portal. Login is required. Materials include short summaries of the five Assurance Argument sections and the results of the HLC Student Opinion survey.

We strongly recommend that all faculty and staff familiarize yourselves with the summaries prior to the HLC’s on-site visit Nov.18-19. Please think about how your position at HFC supports our accreditation.

A detailed schedule of the HLC’s visit will be available soon.

For questions or further information about these two forums or the HLC visit, please contact Lori Gonko at 313-317-1534 or lmgonko@hfcc.edu.
