In recent months, several new team members have joined Academic Affairs. Most are familiar HFC faces; two joined the College in the past year.

The group has moved to the third floor of the ASCC Building (L), in the former Human Resources offices.

Meet the team members:

Dr. Cristina Bailey, Director of Academic Services: Bailey earned her bachelor's degree in pre-med and biology and her M.D. at the National University of the Northeast (UNNE) in her native Argentina. She completed her residency in general surgery and oncology at Vidal University in Argentina. Bailey also has a graduate degree in exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan University (EMU). She is a registered clinical physiologist and a certified yoga teacher. Prior to coming to HFC in early 2019, Bailey was the dean of health sciences and, later, the director of academics at Baker College in Allen Park.

Dr. Reginald Kirkland, Director of K-12 Relations: A native of Chicago who grew up in Detroit, Kirkland has served students in urban communities for more than 23 years as a teacher and administrator. He’s been an elementary and middle school principal in Metro Detroit and in Georgia. He also worked for Michigan State University as a District and School Improvement Facilitator, supporting a variety of districts throughout Southeast Michigan. He has a bachelor's degree in political science and a doctorate in educational leadership, both from EMU. He has a graduate degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM). Kirkland came to HFC in June 2018.

Brandon Nowak, Articulation Agreement Manager: A veteran of higher education for more than 10 years, Nowak came to HFC in August 2016. He was originally a contractor through Entech, working in Records and Registration. In December 2016, he began working directly for the College. His familiarity with transfer credit(s), MTA/MACRAO, degree requirements, and various HFC programs made for an easy transition to his new role in Academic Services. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in information systems management from Wayne State University.

Lindsey Hansen, Catalog Manager: Hansen worked in HFC’s Records and Registration Office from 2016-18 before coming to Academic Services in early 2019. Prior to HFC, she taught at an alternative high school in Southgate for several years. She transitioned to higher education with DeVry University in Southfield, where she was an academic and financial aid advisor. Hansen earned her bachelor's degree in secondary education from EMU.

Vicky Bessette, e-Learning Manager: Bessette has been at HFC since 2002, working with students and faculty to support the use of online technologies and online learning. She has an associate degree in computer information systems (CIS) from HFC. She is completing her bachelor's degree in management and technology at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Glenn Gaddis, e-Instructional Designer: A six-year veteran of the U.S. Army, Gaddis has worked at HFC since 2008 in online technologies and online learning. He has an associate degree in electronics from the Control Data Institute in Southfield, an associate degree in CIS from HFC, and a bachelor's degree in history and education from EMU.

Kristin Olin-Sullivan, e-Instructional Designer: Olin-Sullivan has worked at HFC since 1992, providing instructional design, support, and application training for online learning. She has taught CIS 100 and CIS 221 for the College on an adjunct basis. She has an associate degree in general studies from Lansing Community College, a bachelor's degree in film and video production from Grand Valley State University, and a master's degree in instructional technology from Wayne State University.

Lori Fracassa, Division Secretary: Fracassa has worked at the College since 1994. She has worked in The College Store, the Cashier’s Office, the Registrar’s Office, and the Eshleman Library. Fracassa spent 13 years at the library and witnessed two major reorganizations, one of which happened when Teaching and Learning Services become Academic Services. Before coming to HFC, she was a substitute secretary for three years in the Dearborn Public Schools, of which she is an alumna.

“The Academic Services Office has emerged from our efforts to continuously improve support for the College’s schools, departments, programs, and faculty,” said Dr. Michael Nealon, HFC Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This talented team will further build HFC’s reputation as an exceptional partner with other educational institutions for the betterment of student learning and success.”
