Departments across Henry Ford College held a contest to see which group could donate the most food items to the HFC Hawks' Nest in this year's "Great SNACK PACK ATTACK Food Drive."

The Hawks’ Nest, located on the first floor of the ASCC (Bldg. L), provides supplemental food and personal products to HFC College students in need. This year's Food Drive collected 17,694 food items, a new record! This easily surpasses last year's record, in which 1,200 food items were donated.

The winning department, Hunger's Heroes of Enrollment Services, had the most donations at 4,690 and will win a pizza party sponsored by SAFE @ HFC. The race was tight, with the top three teams separated only by 256 items. The team totals:

  • Enrollment Services: Hunger's Heroes: 4,690
  • Strategy and Information: Hunger Bytes: 4,580
  • Financial Aid: Souper Stars: 4,404
  • Records and Registration: 1,011
  • School of Business: The Business Foodies: 697
  • Counseling: Caring Counselors and Friends: 568
  • Financial Services: Bean Counters: 562
  • Office of STEM: Team STEM: 548
  • Academic Advising: Appreciative Advisors with Appetites: 260
  • Human Resources: 137
  • Student Accounts: 109
  • Learning Lab: Hangry Hawks: 108
  • Eshleman Library: 20

"While Hunger's Heroes won this year's pizza party, the true winners are our students, who are struggling to move forward when they are in need of nourishment," said Beth Preston, HFC financial aid administrator, who helped organize the contest with Mandy Earl, student services associate, who helps run the Hawks Nest. "Each of you who contributed to this year's Food Drive has made a difference in the life of a student. That is something to be proud of."
