Diane Eberts, who has been a coordinator in HFC’s Assisted Learning Services for nearly 30 years, recently won a State Award from the Michigan Occupational Special Populations Association (MOSPA).

“I was very surprised and very honored,” said Eberts.

Formed in 1975, MOSPA’s purpose is to improve opportunities while supporting students who have special needs at the secondary and post-secondary levels. At HFC, Eberts coordinates American Sign Language interpreters who work with hearing-impaired students and staff, selects new adaptive equipment to help students, and works on budgeting time for Inside Track Mentors, ALS Testing Technicians, and Hospitality Technicians. In addition, she’s responsible for compiling ALS data to support the Perkins Grants. Previously, she coordinated the professional tutoring program and peer tutoring program.

“So many people do so much around here. It seems like they should be getting an award, not me,” said Eberts.

Diane Green and Maureen Webster, both licensed professional counselors in the ALS, nominated Eberts for this award. Webster has worked with Eberts since the late 1980s when they both came to HFC.

“Diane is a multi-talented, generous-hearted contributor to a wide variety of activities in ALS,” said Webster. “She is quick to offer any support she can to make everyone’s work easier. She’s been a dear friend and an unwavering supporter of all my work and efforts in this office. All in all, Diane is an outstanding colleague and I cannot think of anyone else who’s as deserving of this award as she is.”
