Meetings
The Student Council meetings are open to all students. Meetings are held in the Learning Lab A-200B (Building A) every Friday from 12:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The HFC Student Council is seeking energetic students who want to lead and serve. We welcome Student Council applications at any time, particularly when vacancies arise.
The Purpose of HFC's Student Council
- To enhance the quality of student life through effective representation of the HFC student body
- To provide an organized means of expression for HFC students
- To represent the students' perspective on various College committees as they pertain to students' interests.
Advocacy
Throughout the year, Student Council requests and receives feedback from students regarding their experiences at HFC. Representatives work with various campus departments to ensure the students' concerns are addressed.
Representation
Student Council Representatives are asked to serve on a variety of College committees to provide input on issues that affect students. Most recently, Student Council members have sat on Shared Leadership Committees and Facilities Master Planning Committee working to improve the student experience.
Council Expectations & Duties
Chair
- Run meetings and public forms
- Act as representatives of STUCO to College Officials
- Set meeting agendas
- Email meeting agendas at least one day prior to meetings/forums
- Act as liaison between Administration and student body
- Attend Coordinating Council meetings (when it is in operation)
- fulfill office hours as scheduled
- Attend regularly scheduled Student Council meetings
Vice-Chair
- Run meetings in Chair's absence
- Perform as the Sergeant-at-Arms at meetings (keeping order/time/etc)
- Oversee subcommittee(s)
- Check voicemail at least two times per week
- Represent Council at events and monthly student club meetings hosted by the Office of Student Activities
- Attend Operating Council Meetings (when it is in operation)
- Fulfill office hours as scheduled
- Attend regularly scheduled STUCO meetings
Secretary
- Record and maintain minutes of every meeting/forum
- Email minutes to entire STUCO within 48 hours of the meeting
- File hard copies of meeting agendas and minutes in STUCO office
- Maintain and update STUCO membership contact list/information
- Maintain attendance record of meetings
- Join and attend college committee meetings
- Fulfill office hours as scheduled
- Attend regularly scheduled STUCO meetings
Treasurer
- Keep ledger of STUCO budget
- Report on budget and purchases at each meeting
- Maintain an inventory of office supplies and STUCO promotional materials
- Join and attend college committee meetings
- Fulfill office hours as scheduled
- Attend regularly scheduled STUCO meetings
Communications Liaison
- Develop promotional materials for STUCO meetings/forums and other activities
- Oversee online presence and recommend changes to the advisor
- Advertise events, meetings, etc.
- Serve as chair of the Communications Subcommittee
- Regularly check STUCO email at least two times per week
- Join and attend college committee meetings
- Fulfill office hours as scheduled
- Attend regularly scheduled STUCO meetings
Representatives-At-Large
- Senior/incumbent representatives act as mentors for junior/newly-elected representatives
- All representatives assist with meetings and public forums
- Represent Student Council at various college functions - such as Welcome Back Days, Orientation, etc.
- Be available to serve on various college and administrative committees
- Promote and encourage student participation in both STUCO and college-wide committees/subcommittees
- Actively promote forums and other STUCO activities
- Represent the concerns of their student constituency to the Council and the college administration
- Fulfill office hours, if a college committee is unavailable
- Attend regularly scheduled Student Council meetings
All Student Council Membership
- Must contact the Student Council Advisor in advance if you are unable to attend a meeting or forum. Two unexcused absences constitute removal from office.
- Conduct oneself as a model of appropriate student behavior while on campus and in the surrounding college community.
Requirements for Candidates
- All candidates must have a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5
- Must be available for general membership meetings
- Cannot be a member of the HFC Board of Trustees, the College Alumni Association, the College Foundation, or The Mirror News.
If Elected, Council Members Must:
- Maintain a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5
- Complete a minimum of six credits each semester
- Maintain integrity and comply with the HFC Student Code of Conduct
- Serve on a College committee
