Henry Ford College Strategic Plan Initiative

Auto-Awarding Certificates and Degrees

While reviewing student credit attainment data, HFC noticed a trend where students had already met the requirements for a certificate or degree yet had not applied to have the credential posted to their transcript. The largest gap was noticed with certificate programs, particularly with certificates embedded within larger degree programs. To ensure that students reap the benefits of their hard work, HFC is identifying mechanisms to notify students of their achievements and have earned certificates and degrees “auto-awarded” to their transcripts, with no additional paperwork required.

Initiative Progress

  • Reinstitute auto-awarding of certificates
  • Pilot proactive degree audit processes to encourage degree completion and a modified, high-touch “auto-awarding” of degrees.
  • Shift advising model to proactively audit student caseloads at various touchpoints and communicate next steps to students. (In progress)
