John Sefel

"Dr. John" is a theatre and speech educator, practitioner, and scholar, with research specialties in theatre history, disability studies, and Jewish history. He has taught at Ohio State University, Baylor University, Cowley College, Chester College of New England, as a Fellow with the Melton Center for Jewish Studies, and now serves as the head of theatre at Henry Ford College.

Other credits include film casting, playwriting, dramaturgy, and nearly 100 directing credits, including in NYC, Boston, and the Central Texas Opera Festival. His work has been published by Routledge, Macmillan, New England Theatre Journal, and elsewhere, with his recent book, At the Intersection of Disability and Drama, earning an ATHE nomination. He holds a Ph.D. in Theatre History & Literature, a G.I.S. in Disability Studies, and an M.F.A. in Theatrical Directing.
