Music Ensembles

Big Band

The Henry Ford Big Band has performed at major jazz festivals throughout the world. The group, founded in 1981, has appeared annually at the Detroit Labor Day jazz festival, twice at Carnegie Hall, and seven times at the prestigious Montreux International Jazz Festival in Switzerland. They have peformed at Presidential Inaugural Celebrations and have also toured Hawaii and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. In addition, the Big Band performs numerous dance engagements throughout the year.

Blue Fusion

This entertaining vocal jazz group, consisting of approximately 12 vocalists plus rhythm section, performs in a variety of styles. Blue Fusion has performed in Chicago along with Studio 110.

HFC Chorus

Featuring the talents of HFC students, faculty and staff, as well as local residents, the HFC Chorus sings a variety of music including classical, pop, jazz and Broadway hits. They have traveled to Notre Dame, Chicago, Stratford and Toronto on concert tours.

Metropolitan Symphony Band

The largest community college concert band in Michigan, the Symphony Band includes HFC music students, advanced placement high school students, students from neighboring universities and members of the community.

Midnight Blue

This accomplished vocal jazz group, consisting of approximately 10 vocalists and rhythm section, performs the most challenging vocal jazz arrangements. The group has performed at the Presidential Inauguration Celebration.

Renaissance Voices

The women of Renaissance Voices enjoy performing the finest in treble choral literature in a variety of styles and languages. The ensemble has take four overseas concert tours and released three CDs, the latest being "The Earth Does Arise," which features Randall Thompson's "Frostiana."

Studio 110

The members of Studio 110, an eclectic mix of musicians, from recent high school graduates to retirees, perform a wide selection of jazz favorites at many Detroit-area events. Studio 110 has performed in Chicago along with Blue Fusion.

Known as HFC's "instrumental honors group," the Symphonic Wind Ensemble features the top musicians from other HFC bands in performances of challenging compositions and transcriptions.

Vanguard Voices

The 75-voice mixed chorus is sponsored by the City of Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department and is choir-in-residence at HFC. Vanguard Voices has performed in England and Wales and with the Wilmington Symphony Select in North Carolina. The chorus is proud to sponsor Vanguard Premieres, a composition contest and commission program which has introduced more than 40 new compositions to the choral world.
