Michael Collins, M.F.A.
Michael “Mike” Collins joined the Henry Ford College Theatre program following a road less traveled. After a long career in commercial construction, he returned to his alma mater, Wayne State University, earning his M.F.A. in Scenic Design in 2022. He serves as the resident scenic designer, shop foreman, and an instructor of Theatre Arts at Henry Ford College.
Mike has taught courses in Theatre History, Theatre Design, and Principles of Design at Rochester Christian University, and teaches Stagecraft and Theatre Experience at HFC. He also works in the Metro Detroit area as a scenic designer, mentor, and production consultant for local schools and educational theatre programs.
His recent design and technical credits include scenic designer, technical director, and/or scenic charge artist for The Detroit Wall Project, Leo’s Big Day Out, the Passage, Gruesome Playground Injuries, and Torn Apart, Together at HFC, as well as The Addams Family, Romeo & Juliet, Newsies, The House That Will Not Stand, Private Lives, Shrek: The Musical, The Sound of Music, and Murder on the Orient Express.
