Christopher Shepard
Coach Chris Shepard began his coaching stint at HFC in the 2017-18 season. In his first year, Shepard guided the Hawks to a MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship while compiling an impressive 23-7 record. He followed up his inaugural season with another Eastern Conference Championship as well as a MCCAA Championship in 2019. In 2021, Coach Shepard led the Hawks to a conference, state and district championship, and recorded the first first-round victory in the school's history at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship. He is a three-time MCCAA Conference Coach of the Year.
Coach Shepard grew up in Warren where he graduated from Warren Mott High School. An accomplished student-athlete, Shepard earned varsity letters in basketball, football and track and field. Shepard went on to play basketball at the University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-D) where he was a 1,000 point scorer. He was named Captain his senior year.
Shepard joins the Hawks after a three-year stint as Assistant Coach at Macomb Community College. While at Macomb, the Monarchs advanced to the NJCAA national basketball championship for the first time in school history. Shepard’s coaching career began as a graduate assistant at UM-D for one season. He then returned to Warren Mott to coach the Freshman Boys and Boys Junior Varsity basketball teams for the next four years. Heading to Warren Cousino High School, Coach Shepard led the boys varsity team to a 2013 district championship for the first time in 33 years.
Coach Shepard holds a Master of Arts in Special Education from Saginaw Valley State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from UM-D. He is married to Tara and has a daughter, Riley.
