Campus Safety Safe Walk Program

What is Safe Walk?

An important part of a safe campus is the involvement of students in their campus community. Safe Walk is a student-sponsored safety escort program created by the Student Government, in cooperation with the Office of Campus Safety.

Additional eyes and ears

Safe Walk student employees or Campus Safety personnel provide an escort to any student or staff member who requests it. The Safe Walk staff is trained and dispatched by Campus Safety and serve as additional eyes and ears on campus.

Call Safe Walk

You don't have to walk alone on campus. Safe Walk student employees or Campus Safety personnel can provide an escort to or from your class or office to your vehicle, or anywhere else on campus. Just pick up a campus phone and dial 9630, or from a non-campus phone, call 313-845-9630. A Campus Safety dispatcher will contact a Safe Walk Employee Campus Safety specialist, or uniformed Security Officer by radio and send them to your location.

To work as a Safe Walk employee

Safe Walk students are always needed. Students who apply for the Safe Walk program must have financial aid Federal Work-Study funds. Work hours are available days and afternoons.

All Safe Walk employees must pass a criminal background check before being allowed to participate. For more information, contact Career Services at 313-845-9618 or Campus Safety at 313-845-9862.
