Report an Incident

Henry Ford College is committed to fostering an environment that is free of sexual harassment and discrimination. We are also committed to an environment in which all types of sexual misconduct are reported immediately. All individuals must promptly report conduct that may violate our Title IX policy to the College. You must report conduct that may violate criminal law to both the College and to local law enforcement.

The College can most effectively investigate and respond to allegations of sexual misconduct if the complaint is made promptly after the alleged misconduct occurs.

  • To the Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Employee Title IX Coordinator in person, by mail, phone, email, or by any other means that results in the Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Employee Title IX Coordinator receiving the person’s oral or written report,
  • Report to the Office of Campus Safety,
  • To the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights regarding an alleged violation of Title IX or by calling 1-800-421-3481), or

Confidential Reporting Options

HFC offers many resources to support you. Some of the resources are designated as confidential. You can use the following resources for confidential reporting of issues:

While confidential resources can provide support, officials may need to intervene in certain cases. If personal safety is a concern, or as required by law, the College may need to report the allegation to law enforcement. You will be notified in such a case.

Reporting to Campus Safety

Campus Safety is responsible to maintain a safe and secure environment for all community members and visitors to the HFC campuses. To report a crime or an emergency, activate one of the Blue Light call boxes or pick up one of emergency phones located in the lobbies of most buildings. This phone rings directly to the Office of Campus Safety Dispatcher. The Office of Campus Safety is also accessible from any campus phone by dialing Extension 9630 or from anywhere by dialing 313-845-9630. The Campus Safety office is open 24 hours/7 days per week.

Submitting a formal complaint

A formal complaint begins the investigation process. A formal complaint refers to a document filed by a complainant or signed by the Title IX Coordinator alleging that sexual misconduct occurred and requesting that Henry Ford College investigate the allegation of sexual misconduct.

A document filed refers to a submission that contains a complaint either by physical mail, electronic mail (email), or directly to the Title IX Coordinator that indicates the complainant is filing a formal complaint.
