To the HFC Community from Daniel Herbst, Vice President, Student Affairs:

The dates for the Student Council election for the 2018-2019 College year are April 25 through April 26 using an online voting process. The election will be supervised by the Student Council Advisory Board. The Student Council Advisory Board is composed of seven members; three faculty, one administrator, and three students.

The Election Procedures require that candidates for the Student Council submit their applications to the office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, Room 430 of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services and Conference Center OR The Student Activities Office, M-105, no later than 4:00 p.m., April 16, 2018. The applications are available in the same office.

Qualifications of candidates for the STUDENT COUNCIL are:
1. Candidates must be registered for a minimum of six credit hours in each semester while serving on the Student Council.
2. A candidate cannot be a member of the College Board of Trustees, the College Alumni Association Board, the College Foundation Board, the Student Newspaper Board, or the College student newspaper, the MIRROR NEWS.
3. A candidate must carry a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.
4. Candidates must have the approval of the Student Council Advisory Board.

The Student Council Advisory Board will review the applications and approve candidates by Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Candidates may begin their campaigns on April 19, 2018 and conclude on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

The Student Council is composed of no less than five members or more than eleven members. The purpose of the Student Council, as indicated in the Student Council Constitution, is to “enhance the quality of student life through effective representation of the HFCC student body, to provide an organized means of expression for HFCC students, and to represent the students’ perspectives on various College committees as they pertain to the students’ interests, e.g., to meet with the Instructional Assessment Committee.”

I encourage all faculty, administrators, and staff to solicit students to be candidates for the Student Council. The success of the Student Council depends upon its membership. This is a voluntary experience that is beneficial to the student members and the College community. Thank you for your assistance. Please call my office at X9215 with any questions or observations you may have.
