Full Circle Dance Company Celebrates Anniversary with Spring Concert May 2-3
HFCC's Full Circle Dance Company will celebrate its silver anniversary with its 25th Anniversary Spring Dance Concert on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. in the Adray Auditorium of the Mackenzie Fine Arts Center on the main campus.
Under the artistic direction of Dance and Fitness Instructor Diane Mancinelli, the Full Circle Dance Company consists of dancers from all over Metro Detroit. The Full Circle Dance Company offers a great experience for high school juniors and seniors. Applicants can also take advantage of dual enrollment. The company requirements are a strong background three-credit class called College Dance Company.
Dance Company members performing in the 25th Anniversary Spring Dance Concert include Jessica Wilson of Allen Park; Sadari Canty, Marie Gury and Amanda Nemeth of Dearborn; Torrence Banks, Lynette Courts, Candice Symone Johnson, Ieshia Phillips, and Mariah Tankersley of Detroit; Christopher Thomas of Southfield; Molly Watson of Taylor; Samantha Fleury and Ivy Tarnoski of Trenton; and Emily Rodler of Wayne. Additionally, Fleury also volunteered her photography services for this milestone year.
The dancers will perform 13 dances. A sampling of the diversity of styles includes the opening piece titled, “PB&J Players,” choreographed by alumna Sandee Rodriguez. It is set to four poems, the first of which is accompanied by Shel Silverstein’s poem, “Have Another Espresso.”
Also included is a dark, haunting piece titled, “Taftitota” (the Greek word for “identity”), choreographed by alumna Sylvia Suttle. A jazzy number for a trio of women called “Vows” was choreographed by alumna Diamond Carswell.
Mancinelli is happy to see such tremendous growth in the company over the last year through the students’ hard work. She said that the company’s morale is very uplifting to witness.
Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for general admission, $5 for senior citizens and students with valid photo IDs. For more information, please contact Mancinelli at 313.845.6314.
