Building Bridges of Understanding Lecture Series Presentation April 3
HFCC's Building Bridges of Understanding Lecture Series will present HFCC religious Studies Professor Bill Secrest’s presentation titled “Making Friends: Muslims and Christians Working Together in Dearborn During the 21st Century.”
This event is Thursday, April 3, from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Rm. L-14 of the Liberal Arts Building, located on the main campus. HFCC’s Religious Studies Program, Council of World Cultures and the HFCC Diversity club are sponsoring this event.
Secrest will present a brief overview of the three Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Secrest, a religious historian, will provide a perspective that demonstrates harmony and dialogue between the three religions. He will also explore the challenges for building multi-faith appreciation in Southeast Michigan, as well as opportunities. Afterwards, Secrest will field questions from the audience.
The HFCC Diversity Club asked Secrest to give this lecture since he is neither Muslim nor Christian, but rather a historian who is sympathetic to both religions. He will offer his own personal reflections after having studied and taught about all three Abrahamic faiths during the past 40 years. Secrest has taken two sabbaticals and journeyed across the world to sacred places to investigate interfaith relations.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call John Carroll at 313.845.9753.
