HFCC Staff Member Receives Beverly G. Duquette Award of Excellence

Henry Ford Community College Corporate Training secretary Patty Sellers of Brownstown Township was the recipient of the Beverly G. Duquette Award of Excellence at HFCC’s 35th annual Women’s Recognition Luncheon, sponsored by the college’s Focus on Women (FOW) program.

The Beverly G. Duquette Award of Excellence was created in 2003 to honor the memory of the late Beverly Duquette. Duquette held various positions at HFCC, including administrative secretary in HFCC’s Office of the Vice President/Controller and president of the Dearborn Federation of School Employees (DFSE).

The award honors a member of the HFCC/Dearborn Public Schools support staff who has made an outstanding contribution to HFCC and the Dearborn Public Schools and who has shown excellence in the promotion of education in the Dearborn community. Last year’s recipient was Jan Linderman, River Oaks Elementary School secretary.

'Honesty, soundness, friendly and outgoing are words that describe (Sellers),' said Linderman. 'She performs her job with great enthusiasm and initiative and has an excellent rapport with students, co-workers and staff. She is always remembering the primary reason we are here- to support teaching and learning.'

Sellers began her career in the Dearborn Public School system in 1988 as a cashier. During her years of service she held various positions while proudly working hard to attain her associate’s degree from HFCC. In addition, Sellers has been an active union member, serving as DFSE representative and executive board member. She also has served on many committees including the DFSE Sick Bank Committee, the DFSE executive board as financial secretary, the HFCC Staff Council, HFCC’s 70th Anniversary Committee and the Beverly G. Duquette Memorial Golf Outing Committee.

'I am so honored,' said Sellers of receiving the award. 'Bev Duquette was one of those who always pushed others to better themselves, and I try to be one of those people.'
