HFC welcomes new admissions recruiter Terrell Cheathem

HFC’s newest admissions recruiter, Terrell Cheathem, enjoys helping college students develop into the best versions of themselves.

“My passion is to help students be successful. Working at HFC will allow me to continue on that path,” said Cheathem, who lives in Sterling Heights with his wife, Rebekah.

Cheathem joined the College in late July. He reports to Jeremy Guc, Supervisor of Admissions and Recruiting.

“I’m happy to be here and to be part of this team,” said Cheathem. “Jeremy has been great since I started at HFC. He’s been really supportive during my transition into this new job. My teammates have been really supportive too, and I am looking forward to working with more people across the College.”

Ohio roots

Cheathem was born in Mansfield, OH, 45 minutes northeast of Columbus. A graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Cheathem earned a football scholarship to Grand Valley State University in Allendale, where he was a running back. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2016 and his master’s degree in higher education in 2019 – both from GVSU. While in grad school, one of his classmates was fellow HFC admissions recruiter Britney Underwood.

Initially, Cheathem wanted to pursue a career in college sports, aspiring to become a Director of Athletic Facilities at a college or university, due to his fascination with the advancement of athletic facilities over the years. He worked as an academic advisor in athletics at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo after grad school. The position was eliminated due to the coronavirus pandemic. Afterward, he was employed at the Dearborn campus of Dorsey College, where he was an admissions representative before coming to HFC.

“A true difference-maker”

“In my position as admissions recruiter, I will be able to share with students what makes HFC special, and what we have to offer that will help them be successful. I will be conducting campus tours, visiting high schools, and other recruiting activities,” said Cheathem. “My ultimate career goal is to be an educator in any way possible. I want to continue to reach students and help them to believe in themselves so they can reach their goals.”

Guc looks forward to great things from Cheathem.

“We’re very excited to have Terrell join our team in Admissions and Recruiting!” he said. “I look forward to watching him grow into his role of admissions recruiter, where he will have the opportunity to be a true difference-maker for many students by helping them make their college dreams a reality here at HFC.”
