Student Services Spotlight: The Hawks’ Nest

The Hawks’ Nest – HFC’s student food pantry – is open to serve students who need food assistance.

The Hawk’s Nest, on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Building L) on the main campus, is open on Monday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout the semester. Students may come to the Hawks' Nest by appointment only.

How to receive food and personal items from the Hawks' Nest

1. Make an appointment

Please make an appointment by emailing hawksnest@hawkmail.hfcc.edu at least one day in advance of the time you wish to come in.

2. Register online

The Hawks’ Nest staff will send you an online registration form to complete prior to your first visit. You will need to present a copy of your Fall 2020 HFC class schedule either through email or in person at your first visit. If you are registered for at least 1 credit hour at HFC, you are eligible to receive food from the pantry twice per month.

Each time you make an appointment, you will receive an online food order form to select which food and personal care items you would like in your pre-packed bags.

3. On the day you come to campus, fill out the health screening form and bring the notification with you

Due to health and safety protocols, students will not be able to enter the ASCC building or the Hawks’ Nest. You must complete the online health screening form the day of your visit (it must be dated on the day of your visit) and enter campus through the north entrance, where you will have your temperature taken. You must show your approved health screening form on your phone or paper.

Once you go through the temperature checkpoint, you will proceed to the ASCC building and pull up in the circle drive in front of the building. From there, you will call 313-317-6529 to let the Hawks’ Nest staff know that you are on campus for your appointment. The staff will then bring your pre-packaged food and personal care items out to you at the table that is set up at the entrance.

4. Follow required safety protocols

When picking up your food and personal items at the allotted time, please follow these safety protocols:

  • Complete the online health screening form
  • Wear a mask that covers both your nose and mouth
  • Maintain a social distance of six feet
  • Sanitize your hands
