Illustrated summary of basic self-defense techniques

The MI-ACE Women’s Network is hosting a “Lunch and Learn” session in the Welcome Center (Building WC on the main campus) from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

This class is open to both women and men at HFC. Please come as you are -- no special attire required. Bring your lunch. Drinks will be provided.

This event will give participants the opportunity to learn self-defense techniques. The class is taught by Shawnie Haskell, a second-degree black belt in kenpo karate, who has taught these types of classes throughout the Midwest. She has also worked at the Cincinnati Rape Crisis and Abuse Center as a rape counselor.

Shawnie’s classes are low impact, requiring little or no strength. Her techniques are simple and easy to learn. Shawnie will focus on getting away, not getting into a fight. She has taught students from age 5 to 80 years old.

Dr. Susan Shunkwiler and Shai James-Boyd are the MI-ACE Women's Network institutional representatives.

Please register early, as this class is limited to 30 participants.

All participants will receive a keychain/whistle. For questions or to RSVP, contact WomenLead@hfcc.edu.
