Retirement party for Mary Szymanski Dec. 12
CAPTION: From L to R: Ken Donovan, the Hawkster, Patty Sellers, and Mary Szymanski in 2016. Szymanski is retiring from HFC. A farewell party will be held for her Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Mary Szymanski, an accounting analyst in Financial Services, is retiring at the end of the year. A retirement party will be held for her Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Financial Services Suite (Room WC-328) on the third floor of the Welcome Center.
A lifelong Dearborn resident, Szymanski, who earned her associate degree in business from HFC in 1995, has worked at HFC since 2004. She began in the Cashier's Office before moving to Accounts Payable. Prior to that, she spent 11 years in the Dearborn Public Schools, the only P-12 school district in the state of Michigan that is still affiliated with a community college. Her three children – Jason, Breanne, and Courtney – also attended HFC.
In retirement, she and her husband Larry, a carpenter who's also retiring from his job after 41 years, plan to travel and visit their daughters, who live out of state. Szymanski and her husband also plan to renovate their house. She joked that Larry will continue to put his carpentry skills to work.
She looks back fondly on her 14 years at HFC.
"I'll miss the people here and my colleagues." she said. "They're good people."
Added Barb Eisterhold, HFC Financial Services Coordinator: "Mary has been working with us in Financial Services more than 14 years in various capacities. She has been a valuable asset to our team. She will certainly be missed, but we wish her nothing but the best in her retirement doing all the things she loves to do!"
