Speakers for the Investiture of

President Russell A. Kavalhuna, J.D.

President Kavalhuna and the Board of Trustees have invited four distinguished speakers to the Investiture celebration: Jack O'Reilly, Debbie Dingell, Phillip Green, and Michael Meade.

Investiture Speakers: Dr. Michael Meade

For more than 50 years, Dr. Michael Meade has been involved in the community college movement in the United States as a counselor, an administrator, and as a board member.

He began his career in higher education at Montgomery College in Montgomery County, MD in 1966. He worked there for 16 years as a counselor and later as the Dean of Student Services.

Meade came to HFC (then called Henry Ford Community College) in 1982. During his tenure at HFC, he served as the Vice President of Student Services (now called Student Affairs) and served as the Acting President from 1989-90. He retired from HFC in 2005. After retirement, he worked as an adjunct counselor at HFC from 2005-15.

Meade earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit in 1961. He earned his graduate and doctoral degrees in guidance and counseling in 1965 and 1974, respectively, both from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

A native of Jackson, Meade lives in Dearborn with his wife of 53 years, Margie Meade, who is an HFC adjunct public speaking instructor. They have four children and five grandchildren.

Currently, Meade is the Chair of the HFC Board of Trustees. He was elected to the Board in 2014 for a six-year term, ending in 2020.
