Child Development Center
Due to low utilization and financial losses associated with the Child Development Center (CDC), the College and the Dearborn School District have made the difficult decision to close the Child Development Center effective June 30, 2015. However, the College will continue to offer and support child care options for all students and staff who have utilized the Center’s services during fiscal year 2015 (July 1, 2014-June 30, 2015) and will require child care services for the 2015-2016 academic year, which begins July 1, 2015.
HFC and the Dearborn School District are finalizing an agreement with KinderCare, located at Evergreen Road and Hubbard Boulevard. This agreement will cover all KinderCare sites in the greater Detroit area. HFC and school district residents who have used CDC services in 2015 will also have access to the Dearborn Public School all-day child care sites at Lindbergh and Snow Elementary schools.
As noted, families who participated at the CDC this past year are eligible for rate subsidies for one year to assist in the transition to a new site. Those rates are currently under discussion. HFC anticipates these rates will be in the range of $15 to $25 for half-days and full-day services, respectively.
The CDC staff is currently working with families of the children who are utilizing CDC services to discuss the options that will be available at the alternate locations.
