HFC Supports Breastfeeding / Lactating Mothers

HFC provides a supportive, campus-wide environment for breastfeeding/lactating mothers by accommodating mothers who, while on campus, wish to breastfeed their children or wish to express/pump breast milk when separated from their child.

There are three (3) Lactation Rooms available for breastfeeding or expressing/pumping breast milk. These rooms are in the following locations:

  • Room K-340 in the Reuther Liberal Arts Building (Building K) on the main campus;
  • Room WC-109 in the Welcome Center (Building WC) on the main campus; and
  • Room N-144 in the HFC School of Nursing (Building SN) on the east campus.

Each of these rooms generally contains a table, chair, hand sanitizer, sanitizing disposable wipes, paper towels, mirror, coat hooks, trash can, and printed information related to lactation, breastfeeding, and other topics relevant to mothers and children.

How To Use Lactation Rooms

Visit one of the rooms listed above. If the room is unoccupied, it will be unlocked and available for use. Please note that if the room is occupied, you may select another lactation room for your use. Additional lactation rooms are listed on the signage.

Enter the room and engage the lock. When the room is in use and locked, the outside of the door will show the room as “occupied” or “in use.” No one can enter the room while the door is locked, with the exception of Campus Safety in the event of an emergency.

It is the responsibility of the individual utilizing the room to ensure that it is kept clean. Hand sanitizer, sanitizing disposable wipes, paper towels and a trash can are available in each room. Please ensure that you leave the room in good order for the next user.

Please note the following:

  • MOTHERS AND CHILDREN ONLY ARE ALLOWED IN THESE ROOMS.
  • THESE ROOMS ARE ONLY TO BE USED FOR BREASTFEEDING AND/OR EXPRESSING/PUMPING BREAST MILK.
