Visual Effects (VFX) For Stage and Screen
About Our Program
If you are interested in learning about the technologies used in production on movies and games such as "Avatar," "Beowulf," or "Assassin's Creed," then HFC's Visual Effects (VFX) for Stage and Screen program is for you. Our program combines the disciplines of computer science, art, music, theatre, dance, film and video to create a cutting-edge curriculum that redefines the nature of live theatrical performance. You will be well-versed in both stage and screen techniques, thoroughly prepared for entry-level employment in the areas of visual effects, digital compositing, green screen and motion capture, and well-qualified to transfer to any four-year gaming, animation, or film-making program across the nation.
The VFX for Stage and Screen curriculum covers all stages of game, TV and feature film production. You will learn about previsualization, pre-production, production and post-production, as well as the different workflows for HD, 2K, 4K, 5K, 35mm, 70mm, and IMAX formats. You will also gain experience using industry-standard visual effects software such as BLADE; Autodesk Maya, 3DSMAX, and Mental Ray; The Foundry Nuke; Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, and Encore; and legacy software for Alias, Kaydara, IQ, Wavefront and NewTek.
Our program is also the only CGI-based instruction in Michigan that includes motion capture. You will learn how to place and set body markers, capture and edit body data, and create a body motion capture that is mapped to a character using software such as Autodesk Motion Builder and Ascension Technologies Motion Star.
