Head Wrestling Coach

Grant MacKenzie officially joined the HFC coaching staff in 2016 after serving as founder of the HFC Wrestling Club for three years. Under his direction, the wrestling club produced 17 national qualifiers and two All-Americas in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association. He was also voted by his peers as “Coach of the Year” in the Great Lakes Conference in 2014 and 2015.

Coach Mackenzie’s vision and ability to recruit wrestlers who buy into the team’s mission statement is his strength. He builds positive relationships with his athletes and serves as an excellent mentor. Athletes instantly recognize his passion, positive energy and knowledge of the sport and enjoy his calm and confident leadership style. As a result, Hawk wrestlers consistently compete at the national level with a total of 26 NJCAA national qualifiers and three NJCAA All-Americans. In addition, Coach Mackenzie guided the Hawks to a MCCAA Wrestling Championship in 2020 and was voted MCCAA Coach of the Year.

Coach MacKenzie grew up in Dearborn, Michigan where he graduated from Edsel Ford High School and began his wrestling career in 9th grade. He graduated from Olivet College and earned a master’s degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in Public Administration. In 2019, Mackenzie earned the Silver Coaches Certification from USA Wrestling and also established the HFC Training Center as a USA Wrestling Chartered Club.
