Steve Brown began his stint as Head Softball Coach during the 2017-18 season. No stranger to the coaching staff, Coach Brown began his career at Henry Ford College (HFC) as head baseball coach in 2010. Before leaving the coaching staff to assist administratively, he rebuilt the team, the culture and the entire baseball program, leading the team to a 2015 NJCAA Region XII baseball tournament appearance.

Coach Brown has built a softball culture at HFC that focuses on being a top contender in the conference and region. That focus was realized in 2021 when the softball team won the conference and state championship. The team also finished as District Runner-Up and Coach Brown was named Conference Coach of the Year.

Coach Brown grew up in Detroit, MI where he graduated from Detroit St. Martin DePorres High School. He was the MVP on the varsity baseball team his junior and senior years while also leading his team to their first state football championships. He attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas where he continued his baseball career as a 4-year starter in the outfield position. He was a leader on his Wildcat team that captured the Red River Conference title all four seasons. He batted .390 as a freshman and was captain and team MVP in his senior year.

After his graduation from Wiley College, Coach Brown returned to DePorres as head varsity baseball coach for 9 seasons, and also served as dean of students and athletic director. Steven then moved into a production supervisor role for Daimler Chrysler. While working in the private sector, Coach Brown continued his baseball coaching career as coach for the Detroit Eagles Travel Baseball Organization. He led his 13U team to an American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) World Series Championship. Coach Brown then took over the 15U Detroit RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner City) All Star team sponsored by Major League Baseball. He led this squad of young men to 3 straight RBI Junior World Series Championships.

As assistant athletic director for compliance, Steve is responsible for the certification of student-athletes, oversees the Letter of Intent program and assists the director of athletics with other administrative functions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Wiley College.
