| Henry Ford Community College along witht the League of Women Voters --Dearborn/Dearborn Heights will coordinate the Global Issues Month along with a Michigan Student Global Issues Convention on November 9, 2007.
November 2007 is dedicated to global political issues. The month is devoted to discourse among students and others to develop an agenda of the most pressing concerns facing the world today.
There are 3 main purposes for participating in the development of the global agenda.
- To have genuine dialogue between peoples from around the world on what they see as the most pressing concerns.
- To raise their concerns higher on the political agenda in their own country and internationally. As part of this is to have participants determine the best way to articulate these concerns to their leaders, and to the world community.
- To develop collaborative strategies that brings participants together to have a more effective strategy in raising their concerns to the world community.
The strategy is to have participants develop a political agenda (list of critical concerns) through a personal dialogue that continuously expands and incorporates diverse perspectives and understandings. The process begins with discussions at the local level. This can be done through meetings, conventions, classroom activities, internet discussions or through a variety of methods. Whichever mechanism used, the goal is to develop discussions that lead to a preliminary agenda if critical concerns.
The initial discourse can begin prior to November 2007 or during November 2007. Starting in November 2007 a series of synchronous and asynchronous international, national, regional, and local dialogues should occur to further refine the list of concerns and to share these concerns internationally.
