Is Teaching for Me?

Those who teach do so because they have known teaching's magical attraction to the spirit,...They know that to convey to others the knowledge of any subject and to do so effectively are two of life's greatest joys.

Taken from The Elements of Teaching

Teachers touch the lives of many. They are people who have the intellectual capacity to understand, to analyze, and to learn. Then they are able to take their knowledge and communicate it to others so that others may understand, analyze, and learn.

Teachers not only communicate knowledge, but they also orchestrate the activities of students so as to create a learning environment that is intellectually and emotionally enriching. Perhaps you have thought about being a teacher but are not sure if teaching is the career for you. Take a few minutes to ask yourself a few questions:

Do I enjoy children or teenagers?
Do I enjoy learning?
Do I find joy in helping others to learn?
Can I communicate ideas?
Do I truly believe that teachers can make a difference in a child's life?
Do I have a giving and nurturing nature?
Do I enjoy problem solving?
Am I willing to work hard to see that all my students are learning?

If you answered "yes" to some or all of these questions, maybe teaching is the profession for you. Look inside to see how HFCC can help you get a good beginning toward a career in education.
