Finding Your Legacy: African American Genealogy
Deborah A. Abbott, Ph.D., president of the African-American Genealogical Society (AAGS) in Cleveland, Ohio will speak on genealogy as it relates to Black history. She will have on display freedom papers, wills, deeds, a Colored Troop schedule and other documentsthat were used in that era.
Dr. Abbott is a Professor of Counseling at Cuyahoga Community College in Parma, Ohio. She holds both the Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Tuskegee University andaPh.D.from Kent State University (Ohio). She is an adjunct faculty member at the Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research at Sanford University and has presented lectures at a variety of local genealogical societies, libraries, schools, and churches throughout northeast Ohio and the surrounding states.
She is presently working on a genealogy project which will contain a newly discovered court document entitled "The Register of Free Negroes in Boyle County, Kentucky, 1852". Dr. Abbott is a member of the National Genealogical Society, Federation of Genealogical Societies, Ohio Genealogical Society, and the Genealogical Speakers Guild.

Storytelling Presentation
Lola Charlestakes great pride in continuing thefamily heritage as a storyteller, in the AfricanAmerican cultural tradition of the “Griots” (elderswho passed on ancestral information to the tribe andits families).
Lola serves as a storyteller for schools, libraries, churches, clubs and numerous organizations. The stories she tells by word and by sign language are stories with positive outcomes, enlightening situations and strong moral themes.
