The Co-op Partnership

Cooperative Education is an academic partnership in which the college and the employer join to provide the student with a method of learning which integrates work experience and classroom instruction.
Employer Responsibilities
- Provide supervised work which complements the student’s educational and career goals.
- Evaluate the student’s job performance.
- Provide the student the same consideration of health, safety, and working conditions, within the state and federal guidelines, accorded all other employees.
- Reserve the option of extending permanent employment until the conclusion of the program because cooperative education is a training experience.
Student Responsibilities
- Register for the appropriate co-op course each semester of participation in a co-op placement.
- Fulfill all terms of employment.
- Attend required class sessions and complete all course requirements.
- Abide by the rules, regulations, and policies of the employer and the college.
Henry Ford Community College Responsibilities
- Provide academic preparation.
- Grant credit for successful completion of the work assignment.
- Conduct on-site visits.
- Maintain communication with the student and employer to ensure that the student receives appropriate educational benefits from this work experience.
