Seminars


During the semester, non-credit seminars are offered free of charge in a one-week to four-week format on a variety of topics of interest or concern to college students. These seminars are advertised in the student newspaper, the Mirror, and through on-campus flyers.

Career Center Resources
Explore all the resources in the Career Center to help you make a career decision.

Co-Dependency
Learn all about the victim triangle and how powerless one feels in co-dependent relationships. You will examine the roles of the victim, persecutor, and rescuer and find out how such roles and their personalities are attracted to each other.

Fear of Failure
Are you as successful as you want to be? If not, what's holding you back; what's crippling you? There's no need to go through life feeling like a failure. Come and discover the secrets to success.

Five Easy Steps to Transfer
Are you thinking about transferring? Make the transition to a four-year institution easier by coming to this workshop. Areas such as transfer guides, application process, and graduation requirements will be discussed.

HFCC's Resources and Services
Learn more about resources at HFCC that will help you to achieve your goals. Find out about tutoring, career services, classroom accommodations, the Learning Lab, assessment testing, and other support areas available to you.

How to Fall Out of Love
A seminar designed to help you deal with the emotional loss of a love relationship.

Job Interviews
Learn how to respond to the difficult questions that an interviewer could ask you during a job hunt. Illegal questioning will also be discussed.

Learning Styles
Come and take a short test and discover what your predominant learning style is. You can then learn successful strategies to improve your academic life.

Meditation
Attend a guided meditation to relieve your stress and renew your energy. Sit in the meditation circle and experience insight into your existence.

Perfectionism
If you measure your self worth by having to get good grades, having to look just right, or having to be always correct, then it's time to let go of your perfectionistic tendencies. Come and find out how.

Risk-taking
How willing are you to take a risk? Explore what's holding you back and discover what you can do about it.

Stop Smoking
If you're ready to kick the habit, then this program is for you. Self-hypnotic techniques will be used to take away your craving for cigarettes. Advanced registration is required.

Stop Test Anxiety
Eliminate worry, panic, blanking out, physical discomforts, and erasing correct answers. Improve your grades, attitude, confidence, and concentration. Every fall and winter semester, counselor and hypnotherapist John Carroll teaches a four-week seminar on self-hypnosis techniques to erase one's stress and anxiety surrounding tests, math, speeches, performance, lab practicals, and impromptus.

Teaching: Is it For You?
Thinking about teaching as a career? This workshop will help you to find out about the job outlook, whether you will like teaching, what educational level would be best, and when you should transfer.

Understanding your College Catalog
An informational meeting for all students that have common questions about college policies, procedures, and programs.

Weight Loss
Now's the time to take action on losing weight without the use of fad diets or pills. You will be taught self-hypnosis techniques to reduce weight and improve your eating habits. Advanced registration is required.
