Complete the Application for Admission

  • Online application is encouraged at www.hfcc.edu/apply.
  • An alternative is to complete a paper application. Call 1-800-585-HFCC to have an application mailed to you. You can turn in the paper application at the Assessment Office when you are ready to participate in Course Placement.
  • View Admission Requirements. When you complete an application, a $30 application fee will be charged to your account.

Participate in Course Placement

  • Course Placement will help determine which English and math class you should take.
  • All new degree-seeking students participate in Course Placement unless they have taken the ACT and received a score of 19 or higher on the English section, with a 6 or higher on the Writing Test. If you have not taken the ACT Writing Test, then a score of 19 on the ACT English section is sufficient. A score of 23 or higher on the math section will allow you to waive Course Placement for math. Check with the Assessment Center at 313-845-6399 for equivalent scores for the SAT. Michigan Merit Scholarship recipients are not required to take Course Placement; awardees will need to bring a copy of the award letter to the University Transfer, Advising and Career Counseling Office when they meet with a counselor.
  • Course Placement takes about 2 hours and is completed on a walk-in basis at the Assessment Center, first floor, Learning Resources Center. Hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Call 313-845-6399 with questions.
  • Note: Course Placement is not necessary if you have successfully completed math and english equivalents for HFCC at another college.
