Welcome Back Students!
Much progress has been made on the parking lot project. The parking areas and the perimeter road on the south side of campus have been reconstructed and are available for your use. Below you'll find a map that shows all areas that are open for parking.
Use the free shuttle bus service to Fairlane Mall to avoid the construction and traffic congestion. The shuttle runs Monday through Thursday continuously from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., stops at the circle drive behind the Fine Arts Building (note the new location) on the HFCC campus, and stops at the Food Court entrance at Fairlane Mall. See the map below for these locations.
Beginning with the winter semester, the free shuttle bus goes to the HFCC Dearborn Heights Campus as well. The shuttle runs Monday through Thursday. See the schedule below.

HFCC parking lot project to improve campus and help local economy
Feb. 24, 2009
Henry Ford Community College’s parking lot and traffic circulation improvement project, set to begin this spring, is welcome news not only for students and visitors, but for southeast Michigan’s economy.
The three-year, $22 million project on the 75-acre main campus in Dearborn includes the redesign and construction of circulation roads, parking areas and service drives and the addition of green space to meet present and future needs of the campus, according to Marge Swan, HFCC vice president and controller.
“We are pleased to announce this project not only to improve the infrastructure of the parking lots and the flow of traffic in and around campus, but also as an important stimulus project for our local economy," said HFCC President Gail Mee.“It will put people to work and circulate money through our local economy.”
The project includes reconstruction of all main campus parking lots and correction of many site problems, including heavy clay and lack of an existing base under the lots.Improvements will be made to the entrances and exits to the campus to improve traffic flow.Traffic signals and signs will also be improved, and an access road to the recently purchased expansion property on the north side of campus will be added. An expanded storm water detention system will better protect the Rouge River on the western edge of the campus and comply with new, rigorous standards established by Wayne County and the State of Michigan.
Another important element of the project is the creation of a “green” corridor on the western edge of the campus near the Rouge River to provide a pleasant outdoor destination for students and visitors.A new landscape design will bring trees, plants and water features to many areas of the campus, which also will serve as outdoor laboratories for science students.
The first phase of the project will begin in April with the reconstruction of the parking lots most in need of improvement, said Swan.
Cost of the project will be funded from HFCC’s fund balance and the sale of general obligation bonds.State funding is not available for the parking lot improvement project, according to Swan. The HFCC Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Carl Walker Parking, Inc. for the professional engineering and consulting services necessary to design and oversee the project.
