| HFCC Henry Ford II Honors Program student Jillian Richards will be presenting her paper titled, "Fashion and Movements of the 1960s" at the Third Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Wayne State University on November 10, 2006. Jillian is working under the direction of Dr. Hal Friedman, History. This is Jillian's first honors directed study. Jillian is the second HFCC student to have a paper accepted for presentation at the WSU conference. As previously reported, HP student Alexandra Godfrey’s abstract, “Subverting the Chimera: A Speculative Exploration of Patriarchal Binary Oppositions and Gender Performance in American Higher Education,” was also accepted for presentation at the conference. Alexandra is working under the supervision of Dr. Peter Kearly in her second HP directed study. |

Hannah was among twenty-plus applicants for six awards in Rotary District 6400. She is being sponsored by the Rotary Club of Trenton, Michigan. |
| Kate Still, a Henry Ford Community College graduate was awarded the National Pearson Teaching Fellowship Award by the Jumpstart Program in June 2006 for her work mentoring at-risk pre-schoolers in the Jumpstart Program.Still was one of only 34 individuals nationwide to receive this award and also had the opportunity to attend Jumpstart's Summer Training Institute to receive specialized training designed to support her development as a teacher. |

| Team HFCC participated in the Relay for Life 2006 to raise funds for cancer research and programs, provide support for cancer survivors, and remember those who lost their battle with cancer. 71 students, 4 staff and faculty members, 5 HFCC alumni and 15 family members and friends participated. The team set a goal of $1,500 and exceeded their goal by raising $4,406.51, achieving the $10,000 mark over a 6 year time period. |

Broglin participated in an engineering internship in Armenia where he helped a group of graduate students at the American University of Armenia start their own SME student chapter. |

Esther was one of a dozen students chosen out of several hundred of the best undergraduate students across the country to be accepted into the National Science foundation-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates program. Esther studied molecular biology of the fruit fly Drosphila. Esther also received a Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship worth $1,000 for the academic year 2005-06. |

| HFCC student clubs and supporters formed a team of 15 student club members, staff, faculty, and alumni who raised $3,261.00 for the American Cancer Society in 2004. To raise money, volunteers hosted games for children, sold luminaries and collected donations from family and friends. The team participated in the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society in Taylor, MI and won a plaque for best team spirit on the day they donated their earnings. In the course of the last three years student groups have raised over $5,000 for the American Cancer Society. |

| HFCC Henry Ford II Honors Program student Shannon Moore presented a paper at the Fifteenth Annual Argonne Symposium for Undergraduates in Science, Engineering and Mathematics. Shannon's work on road salt and it's affect on the Rouge River was conducted under the supervision of Linda Brandt, Biology Department Instructor as an Honors Directed Study project during Fall 2004 semester. Shannon's work was originally inspired by the Ford Salt Project, officially titled, "The Henry Ford Technical Leadership Program" a collaborative effort between HFCC and Ford engineers. Early discussions led to a decision to focus on road salt and the Rouge River. HFCC Instructors Mike Daher and Rick Bailey organized the Ford project. |

Jessica's paper "The Many Faces of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" was selected to be presented in the Psychology section of the LAND conference in Traverse City. Jennifer's electronic poster presentation "The Janet CompleXXX" received Honorable Mention at The American Psychological Conference in Honolulu. | Former HFCC student, Elisa Maria Rameriez has been accepted to participate in “Dinosaur Research” a National Science Foundation Project through Hope College. She will spend five weeks in Wyoming on a dinosaur-dig then return to Holland, Mi to analyze the findings. She will be attending the University of Michigan after graduation. |

| Paramedic student, Mike Mattern attended the annual EMS Expo in April 2004. Mattern competed with licensed professionals on a Basic EMT written exam and scored first place. He put together a team and then functioned as team captain and they competed in a practical scenario competition and they took first place. |
| Kennicki Jones, Stage Manager for HFCC's production of "The Tempest," directed by Dr. George Popovich, was recently accepted into Florida State University's Film School. The film school is rated among the top ten in the United States. |
| Recognizing that Law Enforcement is a community service/giving profession, members of the HFCC Criminal Justice Club held several fund raising events throughout 2004 The club raised over $250.00 by selling logo shirts and coffee cups. The money was donated to WHFR FM. A gold leaf is mounted on the donation tree recognizing the efforts of the club. |

Both brothers received Presidential Scholarships at Wayne State University when they transferred in Fall 2002. |
| Two HFCC art students, Anne Borrello and Joyce Ruby, in the ceramics program had their ceramic art work juried into an 8-state regional student exhibition that was on display at our national conference for ceramic arts attended by educators, students, ceramic professionals and collectors from all over the world. |

| HFCC student Chris Makas won first prize at the Student Scholars Conference sponsored by the Liberal Arts Network for Development (LAND). LAND is an organization composed of the community colleges in Michigan designed to promote the liberal arts at Michigan community colleges. The conference was held at Muskegon Community College on September 27, 2003. Chris’ paper was in philosophy and was titled “John Locke: Aspects of his Political Philosophy”. The paper was originally written as part of the Philosophy 135 class taught by Dr. Wallenmaier that Chris took. |
| HFCC Henry Ford II Honors Program student Farhan Latif has been named to the All-USA Academic First Team and New Century Scholar for Michigan. The former comes with a $2,500 award, the latter with a $2,000 award.* The All-USA is a national competition in which nearly 2,000 nominees from community colleges around the country compete. Sixty winners are selected in three teams (First, Second, & Third) 20 students each. Only First Team winners receive the monetary prize. The competition is sponsored by USA Today, the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa. The top scorer in the state is also named New Century Scholar. The president of each community college is able to nominate two outstanding students. Nominees must prepare a taxing entry form detailing their academic record, campus and community service records, leadership qualities, and academic performance. Academic and community letters of reference must also be submitted. |

| HFCC and Partners Plus have two students working under the new Ford's Urban Initiative Program. Fastswitch and Ford Motor offers this program to transfer students (minority) who are accepted into the College of Engineering & Computer Science at UM D. The students accepted into the Urban Initiative are hired to work 30-40 hours per week @ 14.00-16.00 per hour. In addition, they are given a scholarship to cover two classes, books, and fees per term. Also, their university student medical plan is paid by Fastswitch. Partners Plus hopes to encourage more students interested in Engineering & Computer Science at HFCC to take advantage of this opportunity and become part of our partnership with UM Dearborn and Ford Motor Company. |

| Mary Hendrian BS, RRT, a 1985 graduate of the Respiratory Therapist Program and currently Supervisor for Respiratory Care at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center, Dearborn, has formed the not for profit organization "Emergency Aid for Children" of which the Michigan Chapter is "HAPS – Help Appalachian People Survive". This organization’s mission is to provide basic necessities to needy families in Mary ’s home state of Kentucky. This past Christmas with the help of local individuals, businesses and the Teamsters, 2 ½ Semi Truck loads of food and necessities were delivered to help 38 families in the Appalachian Mountain communities. Mary’s organization also provides help to local community organizations that call and request specific help for local families. |
